Adamson spoiled Ateneo's bid to complete a perfect elimination round record as it hacked out a thrilling 18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 15-12 victory in the 7th Shakey's V-League First Conference Thursday at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons got the much-needed offense from guest player Nerissa Bautista and Angela Benting combining for 48 points to defeat the Lady Eagles in an exciting contest.
The victory proved to be crucial for the San Marcelino-based volleybelles as they forged a tie with Ateneo and Lyceum for first place in Group B with identical 3-1 slates but got the top seeding thanks to a better quotient.
Adamson will join Group A first-placer San Sebastian, University of St La Salle-Bacolod and Lyceum in Group I of the quarterfinal round while Ateneo, University of Santo Tomas, Southwestern University and St Benilde were placed in Group II.
Thai import Sontaya Keawbundit led the Lady Eagles in a losing cause with 27 points, 25 off attacks, while fellow guest player added 13 markers.
Pau Soriano and Charmaine Moralde added 13 and 11 points each for the Lady Falcons.
In other results, St La Salle defeated Southwestern University, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-18, in a match pitting the two champion teams from the Visayas region.
The Lady Stingers, the champion of the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports and Educational Association (NOPSSCEA), got 17 points from Sheryl Denila and 16 from guest player Michelle Laborte to finish the elims with an even 2-2 record for third place in Group A.
Erika Verano made 22 points while Thai import Lasungnern Piyatada finished with 16 in a losing effort. The Lady Cobras, the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) titlist, fell to 1-3.
On the other hand, Lyceum completed the elimination of Cebu's University of San Jose Recoletos following a 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 win. The Lady Pirates finished with 3-1 in Group B.
The Lady Jaguars will head back home to Cebu with a dismal 0-4 record.
